Welcome aboard Ron! Where do you keep your boat? Give us some details on age, keel type, tall or standard rig, interior layout, etc... so we can better answer any questions you might have.
Ha! You must have seen us coming into Clear Lake and figured those two yutz's in that boat have absolutely no clue. =)
Yes, it's my first boat actually. And Saturday when we moved her from Galveston was the 2nd time I'd ever been on a sailboat. The first was the day I bought her the previous week.
She's a 1981 traditional with a fin keel. Right now we have her at Watergate. I haven't been able to figure out if she's a tall or standard. The boom seems a little low to me, so I'm thinking she's a tall rig. I could be completely wrong though.
She needs a lot of work. The hull and deck appear to be solid, the standing rigging appears fair. I think the running rigging needs an overhaul, and she could use a complete revamp down below. We did a quick job of fixing the head before we moved her, but all the plumbing really needs to be replaced. I'm planning to start on the electrical work this week, followed by plumbing and then the running rigging... Although I'm sure my wife will decide the original cushions and fabric will have to go before she's fully accepted into the family, so I'll have to squeeze that in there too. =)
Beyond that, her sails are in sad shape and none of the ancient instruments work. The depth meter has decided that everything being 5 feet deep is good enough, the compass is unreadable, the knot meter is a constant 0.0 and the log is likely no better.
So, I imagine you'll hear a lot from me... I have a lot to fix and a thousand questions.
We sailed my boat from Galveston to Clear Lake last June. I've done a lot of work on my boat and enjoy tinkering with it so if you need any help, an extra hand can be very useful at times, let me know. I'd be happy to stop by and lend a hand. I helped Gary drop his mast a couple weeks ago.
That's now 3 of us on here that are in Houston... I have a dock mate with a '79 C25 so we have the beginnings of a C25 fleet in Houston. We'll all have to sail somewhere and raft up sometime.
Awesome! I'll try to stop by for a few minutes if I get done putting my boat back together. I finally got some people to hang with. It's been lonesome down here since I bought my bought in '07.
Kent - I still owe you a dinner at T Bone Tom's for helping me out. Let me know when you want to collect.
Add me to the Houston list. My father and I just spent the last 18 months repairing and refitting my C25. (It was an Ike "rescue". It had some dock rash and years of neglect.) We put it back in the water a couple of weeks ago at Legend Point. I've sailed with others for years but this is the first boat I've owned. Looking forward to sailing on my own boat.
Nope, never received it. I had Kent's phone number but messed around and didn't get it in my address book in time and it got deleted.
What kind of car do you drive? I've got a white F150 Supercrew. I saw a couple getting out of a SUV over by your dock last weekend and wondered if it might be you. I didn't have time to stop. Sorry!
You guys shoot me an email to gary dot booker at rscrental dot com tomorrow and maybe we can all get together this weekend. Although it being Father's Day this weekend I'm not sure I can get a kitchen pass to come play.
I drive a silver Explorer. I've been out there most evenings with my daughter this week at various times trying to get my new DC panel installed.
I'm not sure what my schedule's going to look like for the weekend yet. We're planning to attend the boat show tomorrow. Saturday's mostly booked but I'm hoping to make it out in the evening. With any luck Sunday will be wide open. I'll send a note when I know for sure.
Hey Gary and Kent, I do live north around lake Conroe area. I hope I can be some help with advice I have my 81 c25 fin keel std rig in my yard. I have been doing alot of bottom work on it and now keel bolts. But many areas I need advice my self. Its been quite a project for me but love the work .Good luck with your work....Don
Ok I will let you know how it goes this weekend I will be working on it. are your sister bolts be 1/2-13? Im tapping my first hole this weekend drilling is pretty tough..thanks for adding me to your post.Houston has a C25 fleet?
Don, I am trying to start a Houston C25 fleet... my idea is to do several things:
#1 - provide local support/help with maintaining older boats - nothing beats first hand knowledge #2 - have some social sailing together #3 - get all the C25 boats we can together and do some light hearted racing.. I sailed my C25 in the Icicle Series races in January and we had a great time.. we even came in first in our class(GBCA club handicap) one race and finished 7th out of 14 over all with us missing the last race because of hardware problems.
If you go to the other thread you can get my email and send me contract info if you want. Since your sailing out of Lake Conroe, you can come down to Clear Lake and sail with some of us on the bay and then maybe sometime we can come up your way and sail Lake Conroe.

What's sailing like on Conroe? Are there many sailboats? I don't remember seeing many on the lake.
