Compared to Alabama, we don't have anything to complain about, but we are dealing with flooding again, one year to the day after the beating we took May 1, 2010. Fortunately, not anywhere as bad as last year, when the water came almost up to the porch. It's supposed to rise another foot, and they say we'll have to put up with it for up to 2 weeks, until the Ohio and Mississippi rivers come down:
See edit comments below. Corps of Engineers is holding water due to flooding on the Mississippi, Ohio, and Cumberland rivers. As of 5/4/11, water is only 3-4 ft. from the top of the spill gates at the dam.
Edit 5/4/11: Water is now 4-6" over the aggregate walk on the right side middle of the pic above.
Edit 5/4/11: Water is now up to the middle of the fence in the pic above. Nobody came out to move the J22's on the right or the ones in the middle. Water is about 1 ft. under the dark blue hull.
Moved these guys out of the "dry" storage pen Thursday:
Edit 5/4/11: Water is up to the curve in the road, parking lot is almost completely under water now.
Today, the water is almost a foot over the top of the railing that is in the water in the pic. Edit 5/4/11: Drove a Boston Whaler over the railing today. The marina manager and I pulled 2 catamarans out of the trees - one has been there since last May. Water is just below the crossbar under the 2 signs on the gate in front of the bridge at the end of the walk pier.

Dave, that brings to mind pics our daughter sent us from Carlyle Lake when she was in grad school at Wash U., only it was not that high then - about 3 ft over the seawall. Either way, that's a lot of water. I know you guys have had to deal with excessive rains too, not trying to diminish your troubles. Was your club's building flooded, too?
The weather guys here said our normal average rainfall for April is 3-4 inches. Many areas received 12-13 inches. Last year we received that much, or more, in 1 day.
Water level at 6PM today was 501.5 ft. above mean sea level, or 11.5 ft. above summer pool. The top of the spill gates is at 506.
dave p the water is just at the harbormasters downstairs door. floor is dry. now all we need is for the lower mississippi to start going down in the midstates and we'll be back to lowering the lake.
all our events are on hold. they say we will be back sailing by mid june>
that's good with me.
i got lots of things to at home so the pressure is not so great with the boat in the driveway.
of course, all the things i was going to do on the boat will still be incomplete when its time to go back to the lakle.
where does all the time go????????

That's good news about the dry floor. Our club decided to go ahead and hold the regatta we had scheduled for this coming weekend, May 14-15, and I'm the PRO. I was hoping they would have the good sense to postpone. Parking will be crazy, and we'll have to ferry people out to the docks. Yesterday they opened the gates at the dam and are releasing 9,100 CFPS. The water crested Wed. at 501.65 ft. above mean sea level, and it's now down to 500.95. Summer pool is 490. I think the plan is to hold it at 500 until the Mississippi and Ohio fall below flood stage. I feel for the people along the Mississippi, especially the farmers whose homes and farms were flooded when they blew the levee.
