Happy to say that Volare won the local Spring series. We were serenaded over VHF as we crossed the line of the last race this afternoon. It was a wild series with many weekends of winds in the 20s and 30s. Had a cracker jack crew that made it all come together. Can't wait for the next regatta!
What a coincidence! This Side Up won our Spring Series also. We didn't race the 1st 2 back in March because of too much wind, but took 2 bullets in both April (with a reefed main and a 100% jib)and in May (with a full main and a 100% jib). Sure helps to have the "A" crew with you!

That's cool, I got owned Sunday by a J-92, an 11 Meter and a Hunter 31. Took 4th place in Australian Pursuit.
I was the only "B" fleet boat out, really looking forward to my new main. meanwhile we are cleaning up on Wednesdays in the C-27, which has a brand new main sail.
Not up for the Nationals the officers have initiated "Regional Regattas". Either way you can host an Assoc. sanctioned event.
"It’s time to call for bids for the 2012 Catalina 25/250 – Capri-25 Association National Regatta.
Our bylaws state; “Fleet bids to host the Nationals shall be submitted in writing to the Vice Commodore by June 1 for a vote of the Officers (Article VIII, Section B) by June 30. “
If you have Association boats in your area, C-25’s, C-250’s and Capri 25’s, that enjoy racing and are willing to host an event that will attract members from all over, step up and make a bid to host the associations National Regatta. Hosting our National Regatta can bolster your racing season and will be a great asset to the Association. Contact John Gisondi, Vice Commodore at Peregrine85 @ gmail.com with your bid to host the Nationals.
Regional Regattas
Not every fleet or group of association members can host a National Regatta but many of you enjoy racing comparable boats. The officers have approved “Regional Regattas” so that local fleets can host sanctioned regattas in their regions, competing with our members and promoting racing amongst our association boats. Hosting a successful “regional” will go a long way in making your venue eligible to host the annual “National Regatta”.
These are great opportunities for our racing members. Step up and make a bid for the Nationals or a Regional Regatta. Thank you John Gisondi, Vice Commodore C-25/C-250/Capri-25 National Assoc."

Do I detect some reverse bend in his mast (top forward, middle back), or is that an optical illusion?

quote:
Dave - it looks like you need a balanced rudder and a re-tune of your rig

The balanced rudder just makes that weather helm easier on the arms--not less drag on the boat. The rig looks like it might be reverse-bent, which might explain the deep draft in the upper part of the main (look at the stripe below the logo), which might explain heavy weather helm.
But of course, this is coming from a $+!nkp*++er... I'm just pulling for you to challenge Confetti at the line!

You bet!!!! I want the Cat 25's ALL out in front of the "other" boats!!! <grin>
How about a little "match racing" Tom and Dave???? (followed by an indepth de-briefing at the bar???)
Dave, Confetti had already crossed the line and came about to take photos. I think we may have already crossed the line as well and were pointed WAY to wind, doing a series of round-ups as we looked for a "Full Sail" beer which caused the odd sail shape to the main. I can't speak to Tom's rig but can tell you we had the back stay adjuster tight to weather so I think the reverse mast bend is an illusion. And of course at least 6 other people's rigs must have been worse Chuck did give us some rig stance pointers after the race though, saying that on lighter days we should actually ease the tension a bit even to weather for better performance, especially with the furler. And Derek, I have a balanced rudder on Bamboo and like it, but I think the unbalanced is like rack & pinion steering and allows you to better feel what your boat is doing. Tom and I have talked about his rudder and I'm going to bring mine next month and we'll see how things shape up.
Dave, DaveR is correct, we were being lazy at that point, didn't want to put our beers down to mess with a sail. But, I do thank you for pointing out the reverse bend, not sure if it's an optical allusion or not. I talked with Chuck today, one day soon he's going to school me on rig tuning and sail setting.... maybe someday he won't have to back track too far after he crosses the finish line to take my picture
Ha! I zoomed on the pic, you do have a beer in your hand! Between that and dodging the lovebugs we were busy guys! You couldn't see the bugs in that pic but look at this one. There were thousands of them. As we approached Confetti Chucks hull looked like a speckled egg (lovebugs are attracted to anything white).
