I have to admit, my terminology may be off here. I am missing the little horseshoe shaped thing that goes around the bottom of the block that attaches the traveller to teh mainsheet. (I think thats called a beckett - right?) Before I drive an hour to the nearest chandlery, does anyone know if these are available on their own, or do I have to buy a whole block to get one?

It depends on how the block is built. If there is a place to put the pin through, then an appropriately sized shackle with a screw pin will do fine.

It's called a "D" shackle. A becket is the fitting that the end of a block that is used to attach a line to the block.
