Another question yet again about these (actually two).
1) Does anyone here have them and if so, are they worth the $$. I am searching for ways to accommodate more than 3 comfortably in the cockpit with the sails up.
2) I think that I would really need only one (they sell them in pairs) because I don't like the PITA factor of moving them to get to my outboard. Does anybody here have/use only one of theirs and would like to discuss selling me the other? (I know, this probably should be posted in the swap meet section)
Putting on only one could be problematic if you're relying on them for seating space. They may be a bit uncomfortable when you're heeling and somebody is sitting in the leeward perch.
The narrow cockpit is probably the worst legacy of the age of the design, most other things about the design have aged very well, (side decks excepted). As for adding stern perch seats, you will probably be unhappy with the results and will have wasted time and treasure on this red herring. The Cat 25 is what she is, if you want more people on a sail then sail on someone else's boat that day.
Gotta agree with Frank; stern perch seating is better suited to bigger boats,of course they don't need the aditional seating to begin with. If you need room for an aditional person or two have some sit on the cabin top or if it's too rough for that, then seat them below. The C25 is not really designed for more than six adults and is most comfortable with only four.
I have only on e(made for me by a friend, not store bought). Reason? We have our BBQ and vang blocks for the backstay adjuster on one side, clear on the other side. It is for our C34, but I think there is merit in the OPs original question. One can work. Our 1981 C25 had the motor on the starboard side, fuel tank on port, so clearances for openings would be a consideration.
