some results of a Google search:

Another solvent that will take off varnish and Cetol is "Goof off" sold in small cans. It's stated use is to remove adhesive labels.

I've had great results using FSR, but I doubt it'd work well on Cetol.

Best way to get rid of the Cetol stains is to sell the boat and get another one...
...it has the added advantage of getting rid of the Cetol on the brightwork!

(not that I'm prejudiced against Cetol, but there are OTHERS around here who are)

I love the original look of the wood. My procedure is simple:

1) buy 1kg of oxalic acid (crystals)
2) pour 1 spoon into 1 liter of water (super cool teak brightener and hull cleaner)
3) rub the wood with small hand brush, wear gloves
4) rinse with clean water
5) give yourself a break to let it dry ( practice the rope knots )
6) soak a rag with the teak oil and spread it over the wood

Here is the result I made over this weekend (sorry made by my cell phone):

It's very hard. Really, you should have had a damp cloth, or maybe even acetone, handy when you were doing your original coating(s).

We, too, learned the hard way.
