Has anybody threaded wire (eg: VHF antenna wire and lighting) up a Capri 25's mast? I'm totally rewiring a Capri 25 and while I'm doing that and the mast is unstepped, I figure now is the best time to add steaming, anchor, and deck lights. Has anybody done this to a Capri 25? Any advice given that I don't want to interfere with the halyard?
I've run new wire for a GPS antenna, wind speed/direction, VHF and steaming/deck light. With the mast down, I used the old cable to pull the new cable through. I overlapped about two feet of the new and old cable and used gorilla tape to keep them together. I'd be at a loss of how to run new cable through (with the mast down) if you don't have an old cable available to guide it. With the mast up, I've run a lead fishing weight tied to string and lowered it from the top. At the base of the mast, you have two ports to run cabling through. If you have a lot of cabling, I recommend spreading them equally between the two ports. Keep in mind where you are going to place the connectors for each cable. I ran three of my connectors equally spaced out on the starboard side of the mast. Looks nice and orderly but since they are spread out, I've managed to kick and break a connector while running around in the heat of a race. I was better off keeping them close to the mast in order to protect them from my big feet. Hope this helps
