Hi everyone,

I suppose a lot folks will buy the plastic logos from Catalina now that we know they have them. However, if you don't want to spend the boat units, or if you are determined to make your own for some reason, I discovered a trick that makes it a lot easier to cut the logo out of vinyl. Here's how it works:

First, print a copy of the Catalina 25 logo (provided by Patrick in a previous thread). You will need a xerographic print of the logo ... so, if you have a laser printer, you're already set. If you don't have a laser printer, use a copy machine to make a copy of the logo.

Second, tape the xerographic copy PRINTED SIDE AGAINST THE BACK of the black vinyl contact paper.

Third, use an iron to apply heat to the paper ... it will transfer some of the ink from the logo to the back of the contact paper. Now there is a "stencil" of the logo you can use to cut the letters.

Fourth, carefully cut out the letters, and be patient ... if you don't like to do tedious stuff, this probably isn't the project for you. I got the best results using sharp scissors for all except the holes in the middles of some of the letters ... for those I used an exacto knife with a #11 blade.

I cut the entire number "5" with the exacto knife, and it looks bad ... that's why I recommend scissors (and lots of light!). Anyway, I applied the vinyl logo to my boat binder and it doesn't look too bad:

I'll probably make some for my boat and see how they look. If they don't look so hot, I'll just peel 'em off.

Happy holidays!
