Has anyone figured out a good way to transport a couple of bicycles on our boats? We have a couple of new mountain bikes and it would be fun to have them on some of our over night trips. I don't think they'll fit down below, although I haven't actually tried. At best they'd be really in the way unless you could get them up forward in the v-berth somehow.

I've been envisioning some sort of cantilevered PVC tubing to support them, maybe off the stern or from maybe the side stanchions. Another idea is to mount them in the dinghy on a fold out frame that'd allow you to still row once you're anchored. While towing, the bikes would be on top of the inflatable, and when rowing, flipped out to the sides. However if the dinghy got flipped…

Anyone got some good ideas?

Mountain bikes would be difficult to stow I think. Even the little collapsible boat bikes would eat a lot of room. Maybe in the aft bunk?

we have a couple of Dahon Mariner folding bikes... Expensive, but worth it...

Since we have to refill the cruising kitty, we might sell them as we are in boat bondage at a dock for awhile.....

We have a couple of West Marine foldable bikes which fit inside transport bags. We only stow them on board if plan to cruise to a port we can use them. Under way they are lashed to the salon table / bed. When we get to dock we put them ashore or lash them on deck
