I know nothing about this $5000 project boat/trailer and have no interest in the sale. Might be a great project for the right person. Found it today June 22. Good Luck Fair Winds Following Seas
I offered them $500 for the boat and usage of the trailer to get it to my house. If she comes home with me we may have a cool new scrap out project for the forum.
Looks like a NO GO see email chain below for details. How much is the trailer worth you think? Maybe she would bite if I rolled that into the deal. As much as trailers are saught after on this site I could flip it relativly quick.
---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jake, Thank you for the offer, however before I sell it for 500 dollars I'll scrap it, the lead in the keel is worth more than that. Thanks for the lack if intrest, Amy ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Amy,
My intent was also to scrap it. Some people just don't want to be bothered with the effort. My offer stands if you decide to wash your hands of the boat. I was not trying to offend you,it is not uncommon for people with a boat in this condition to not want to deal with disposal of the fiberglass hull which is often the biggest challenge. I am also open to a counter offer. I belong to the largest association of Catalina 25/250 sailors in the US and your boat has been a recent topic on the forum, so I thought I would give it a shot. Do not be surprised if you get similar offers.
Based on her attitude in her response to you I'd let her deal with it (this is not what I first typed - thought better before hitting the submit button).
start a campaign of $400 offers........ in trying to learn: what IS salvageable in this: raymarine tri-data, winches and a masthead??? To me the wiring and electronics are suspect, the stanchions and pulpit toast, interior swamped.....
She's got a point about the lead in the keel, it's got about $1000-1200 worth of melt value alone. The hull is worthless, the mast isn't from a C-250 (I think) but has intrinsic value in the aluminum, not sure of the melt price for it though. The stays are suspect, I wouldn't use them on my boat, the winches should be fine after being rebuilt, all the wiring & electronics are suspect, except maybe the sensor ends of the sounder & speed log (maybe?). The water tank should be salvageable, and maybe some of the other fittings, the hatches, etc. The cushions are toast, their only value is for patterns to make new ones from (while masked up against the mold as Rick pointed out). The table & stand might be worth a bit to someone on here. By far, the trailer is the most valuable part of the deal. Depending on it's condition, it could be worth $2k-$4k?
The "melt value" of the keel will probably be largely offset by the cost to remove it, transport it, remove its encapsulation, etc... I would hope somebody does it, but the boat owner isn't going to get rich from that enterprise. Then there's the disposal of the hull...
This boat is definitly not worth effort besides for parts. Those winches make me drool. I would never touch a boat that has gone down in Mobile Bay unless you sink it in a pool of bleach to get the smell out of those nooks and cranies. I'll pay $500 to watch her try and get that keel off the boat and transported to a scrap yard.
