If we're going to recommend places to retire to outside of the US, Langkawi, Malaysia is high on our list:

Dunno about finding work there, but they've had a major brain drain and may be looking for folks. We spent entirely too little time there a few years ago, and I'm looking forward to going back. Thailand is also on our list, as are Belize, Panama & Costa Rica.

It really is great here. The Hurricanes almost always either hit south of Cape Canaveral or head for the Carolina Coast, the weather is cooler than inland, we have a nice surf and beach and for the most part are smaller towns. As long as you're not worried about a large income. It's a beach bum's paradise.

My vote would be somewhere in the Bahamas.

Okay....so, now if we're talking about anywhere or fantasy...or the far future....

I'd have my retirement vessel now...46' to 52' range....and the Earth would be my backyard. The boat would be my home, but the whole planet would be my destination, living wherever I felt like going on a whim, following the seasons to try and have the best weather at all times.

This is what I'm planing for now. I'm 20 years away.

I like Silicon valley -- friend lives in Redwood City who claims the have "weather that's best by government test". Can't touch a 2 bedroom for less than $1.2M, but what's a few bucks between friends. Rent.
