When we left, we had just enough fuel to make it to San Juan. And now... we are out of fuel!

Should I be worried that you're taking a photo while driving at 65mph?

Joe,

Know your pain. We've been up in Central Texas for the past week and it was 102+ everyday. Even the day it poured near Canyon Lake.

Gary...it actually rained one day last week. I was lucky enough to get caught under one of those small, infrequent pop up showers that were in the area for a few days last week. For 30 minutes....it rained....temps dropped to 88.....it was incredible! Until the sun came out....within another 30 minutes the temp was back up to 96, with 60% humidity!!! OMG, it was awful. It actually hurt my skin to go outside.

Driving from eastern CT over to western CT Friday, east of New Haven I was seeing 104 on the outside temp. Spent the weekend in that, looking out at glassy seas... Back where I came from (home in Mystic) it was at least 15 deg. cooler due to a nice 10-15 ocean breeze every day. My home for 25 years was by western Long Island Sound--no air movement in July through most of September... I don't miss it--no comparison to here!

That's what happened to us. On our way out to Canyon it was 102 and 30 minutes later it was in the upper 70's for a few minutes. It was late in the day and the temp never got back above 90 but the humidity was!

I've seen pictures of Mystic....and it was on the show Aerial America : Connecticut. Looks like a beautiful place to live! Yes, I'm shopping for a new home....No, not really...as much as I want to move, my Mom is here so I'm not going anywhere as long as she's around.

When our humidity hits 98-100....it's usually sort of cool outside and the fog sets in. The humidity acts as a temp controller....the higher the humidity the lower the temp....its when the air really dries out that we soar up to 108+. Humidity on those days is like 19%....if we dried out like the desert southwest to 5% we'd hit those 118's like Steve posted. They can do it out west, toward El Paso and Lubbock.

Around here those scorching temps depend on the air mass and how moist it is.

Along the top is the Atlantic, outside of Fishers Island... Montauk Point on Long Island is out there (not in the pic), but it doesn't block the ocean breezes.

Yesterday it was well over 100 degrees when we went out on the lake. I think about 105. We had to go fix a buoy so we motored over to it. It was hot but OK as we had a nice breeze out there. When we got done with the buoy we had to motor dead downwind to the race course. Since the breeze was light and the wind was going the exact same speed we were going the net effect for those of us on the boat was that there was NO WIND AT ALL. For the 15 minutes or so we were riding at the speed of the breeze, it was suffocation hot. Brutality. I could barely breath. I've never ever been that hot on the lake, ever. Finally we got to the course, raised the sails, went up into the wind and everything was good again. We busted out the water cannon and attacked the other boats, some of them got us. Water balloons were thrown, and everything returned to good and we raced. Blew our start, had the spin shackle come undone dropping the sail, well we didn't do very well.
