The good news with blown out sails is that at least you then have an excuse for coming up short in speed.

When I use to ride my mountain bike in century rides, I always had some that would come by and comment how fast/well I was doing considering it was a mountain bike. But if I then bought a super lightweight titanium or carbon frame roda bike there would alwys be those that would be faster and the only excuse I would have would be the engine (me). I wound up buying a recumbent performance bike with pedals above the front tire and a seatback angled at 30 degrees. It had BMX front tire size and MTN bike rear tire size but was spec'd with narrow rims w/1 1/8" and 1" road tires. Since one sits on it and body/legs are almost in a straight line, above 12 mph there is less air resistance than on a road bike unless one was always using the drop down handlebar ends. I cut over an hour off my century ride times and since recumbents are considered by many as slow, I was always on the reciving end of positive comments.

Maybe best to keep the blown out sails when racing against a MAC 26 and preserve your dignity ! LOL

Yeah I'm looking forward to it, I have to lower my boom even more now, this sail is longer on the luff than what I had.
