Globalstar has been offering $19.99 / month unlimited voice on a year contract and it will end soon. It is real. Same company that supports SPOT products. Forewarned: reception under satellite is roughly 15 minutes on 15 minutes off here at 48degN. They know this, have a call times estimator web-tool and have recently completed phase two of constellation upgrade launches and are awaiting FCC approval to turn these new ones on (in a few months). Best time ever to lock yourself in to this deal. I found the Qualcomm GSP-1600 on ebay for under $100 and use it as my primary cell. The worlds only tri-mode phone. Swing the big antenna up- free satellite when available, drop antenna- switches to my regular cell number ready to send and receive using Verizon towers (through pageplus prepaid). I haven't been bothered by the inability to send a SMS, the phone will receive them, though (ok, I actually love no SMS replies).
