A friend and I sailed in the Weiss Lake regatta last weekend, in a C-22, part of the C-22 GRITS series (Great Racing In The South). We came in 2nd in silver fleet, missing first by only 1 point. My crew was a great help to me, serving also as tactician and coach.
We sailed 4 races, finishing 2,3,1,1. We messed up a mark rounding in race 2 and let the third place boat get ahead of us. The first place guys ran 1,1,2,2. Racing was good, in spite of flukey wind, and the folks at Weiss Lake (Rome Sailing Club) are among the nicest and friendliest people you'll ever meet.

Nice finishes David! All four races on the same day?

That's what makes it so much fun to me, the folks in Tom's (Curran) club are the same way.

Three races Sat. and one on Sun. The wind came out of the north, something it rerely ever does. They set up a modified olympic course, a triangle followed by windward/leeward twice around. The lake is rather narrow so it was a reach to the first mark, really a sprint all the way around giving the boats with the best start a bigger advantage. The first 2 races were pin-end favored port tack starts, again unusual. The last 2 races were windward/leeward three times around, sailing across the lake at the widest point they could find.
