I inherited one of these that gives 12' extension and ~400lbs force. Any ideas? It was a bit short for my pop-top and a little slow for an autopilot and does not stay locked for a boom vang. It is for marine applications and has 1/4 the value on the used market.

"lift for an engine hatch on a power boat" . Resale vs an electromechanical aluminum housed sealed wire stainless ram doesn't add up. Touch leads once it extends, again it retracts. Perfect for the pop-top if it was the longer version.
It would be almost grand for two new lifts at the right length to balance both pop-top sides, and of course be even more a source of envy if you got the model that locked at extension. This one pushes under an inch a second and releases force without electricity applied, so no steering use, was the base model (still like $500). The pop-top gas struts are going on now and this lift is still headed to that purpose.
RRIck, Did some quick figures, and tried looking up specs: The struts are 12 1/2" long? If you can mount the mechanical lift at a point 8 1/8" from the hinge point, the chord length is your 12" extension......using 95° as rotation angle of the pop top struts.....perhaps with the gas struts, lifting on one corner will be possible, otherwise try a releasable connection in the center of the top (forward or aft edge)to be hooked up when you want to raise and stowed away when not needed.
