I have to keep my boat some distance from my home covered with a tarp. Last year the tarp blew out and water found its way into the bilge. Since it freezes here, should I put antifreeze in the bilge? It is a Catalina 25 wing keel.

Will the non-tox antifreeze adversely affect the stainless steel bolts? I'm not certain that a little ice in the bilge will hurt much (I could be convinced otherwise), but I'd be concerned that it could attack the stainless bolts in some way. ??????
I used to put some pink stuff in the sump, and my keel bolts remained shiny... (Right Bruce?) I suspect if that stuff could attack stainless, it would not be "non-toxic", suitable for potable water systems.
Yes Dave, last time I checked they were still shiny. Wondering whether in spite of the shine they're ready to snap off? I could try unscrewing them, but if it works, why fix it?
Testing to failure is the only absolute measure. Get a big torque wrench and crank them down until the break and you'll know how strong they were
