Got off Friday at Lunch and drove up to the lake. On the boat by 2:30 and drove across to a cove that normally holds a raftup of 5 Big powerboats, but as this time of year it is blowin, blustery and cold (50s ) no one was out. Deep to the end of the cove with protection on 3 sides it was incredible.. The opening facing the S SE and the wind from the N NW. Water flat and calm in the cove and blowin whitecaps outside. Sun shining in and it felt like early spring. Dead tired I essentially fell asleep after a few rums and a cigar. Had a horrible night, sick from the cigar and just something not good on the stomach. Lit a new candle and the smell was nauseating.
Up Saturday and worked on the boat all day at anchor. Got the rig tuned and new solar panel. Reading, sleeping, basking in the sun.
Quiet.. birds, wind, and quiet....felt like 70 degrees..warmer in the sun.
Outside the cove the wind was whitecapping the lake, and spinning the boat at anchor slowly as it came from every direction. Saturday night slept like the dead. Lows in the upper 30s were predicted but I think it only got to about 42ish. Sailed all day Sunday and it was Great. The front has moved through and it was now clear and a steady breeze. All the Sailboat were out.
Love it, love it, love getting out alone. The whole world tries to tell me there is something else I should be doing every time I go for a long weekend on the sailboat. Like a jail break when I go.. I gotta jump over the wall and start runnin just to get away.
Strange world we live in.

Trying to enjoy the lake as much as I can before winter blows in and all I can do is sit on the porch and play the guitar... course that ain't so bad..
Not to rain on this parade, but I'm compelled to suggest that you get some more "nautically suitable" fixtures for those flaming objects in your cabin--things that are less likely to tip over if something rocks your boat after you've drifted off with your book. (I'm not worried about the non-marine-quality Maker's Mark tumbler. )
Up here, we had gale warnings for today, with highs around 50. It's over...

Agreed, and you should stow those dinning chairs too!
Ray The photos of the white sails and the blue skies are just stunning! I lived in Atlanta in the 80s when I went to 'Tech and I loved the weather in spring and fall. Winter was short and never all that bad so if I were you, I'd keep sailing until I just couldn't do it any more.
Dave - good news - tomorrow (Sunday) we should hit the 60' again with light winds, and aside from an occasional cold front, we look to be staying in a slightly warmer-than-normal pattern (until the bottom drops out). I'm still fishing with my buddy on his Boston Whaler in LI Sound on sunny, mild days.

How many of us have felt just like this? It's worth that brief and fleeting feeling of freedom when you finally drag your sorry arse back, hat in hand and pay in-full for your transgressions!

Today it was partly cloudy, warm and breezy. Winds out of the South at 12 - 15 with occasional gusts to around 20.
Sorry to hear it's over... Oh... ya... We Texans do say Oops - Oops der it is!
<< get some more "nautically suitable" fixtures for those flaming objects in your cabin >>
yepper.. that is a good suggestion. I'm using a jar type candle in the forward sink right now, and only when I'm up in a protected cove.
I'd love a nice gimballed candle holder.
I'm trying to bring some of my good cameras with me again. Shooting pretty bad right now. Trying so share the experience with everyone up north in the cold. Some of my friends will not go out much cause they claim it is too cold to sail... Hah... I think of New England right now!
<< pay in-full for your transgressions! >>
You have no Idea.... I've got the young SHGF that wants me on the bike/spin/run every day! She is trainin up for a full Ironman right now, and I suspect she would love to have me doing the same ( right, like that will happen )
Ran a 15K trail run this weekend.
Doing Chores every day, and dreaming of Sailing Every day!
Frank - ain't it the truth! I sail vicariously all winter long seeing my sailing pictures. I've set up about 200 photos as my screen background on my work computer - so I never forget. At times some of my work colleagues just stand and stare at the photos as they cycle through.

Sailing, cigars, good booze and guitars, dang, we need to hang out!

Shoot.. you get to do it professionally... you'd be bored with our speed ... But I gotta tell ya.. I gave a teenager a fender electric bass this year.. She had been playin an upright in school..

Funny, struck me as a good lyric too. Any speed is good with me, sometimes the playing for money is not half as fun as just a laid back jam. Never been one of them music snobs.
