Peggy and I visited it this afternoon, huge! (at least we have never seen a boating store that big) and they claim to be the largest boating store in the usa!
Found everything we were looking for. (Cam cleats, wine glasses for our cruises, new Shakespear tv antenna, tell tales)
Luckily we used a coupon to get the discount! needed it!
Store is located on State Road 84 and Andrews Avenue.
Well worth the visit. I'm sure that BOW just west of there will be hurting really quickly.
The new store took the place of the one that was just north of St Rd84 on US1, walking distance to the new store.
Paul, That sounds like a really nice store, and it's good that it's well stocked. WM recently consolidated two out of town stores right here in my town, and doubled their square footage. You can get tilly hats, jolly rogers, bow anchor rollers and every kind of block, cleat and gizmo you can imagine all in one place. Our local sailing club has a discount on certain items which I take full advantage of.
We had two WM stores on Clear Lake. One was on the north side of the lake and one on the south side of the lake (mine) which I can see from my slip. They recently closed down the store on the north side of the lake and started a major expansion of mine. Looks like it will easily be twice the size (if not more) of the current store.
I'd guess it won't open till next spring as they are still erecting the walls.
Sounds like I have something to look forward to next spring.
My local WM has phased out most sailing related stuff. They used to have a wall full of cleats, blocks, cams, toggles, turnbuckles, etc. I went there a while back looking for a 1/4" push pin, and the closest they had was 1/4" SS bolts. The employee was apologetic, but said there just wasn't enough business with the sailing stuff. So now it's all power boat stuff, with just a tiny bit of sailing stuff.
It's great having Defender a 10-minute drive from home... Keeps the WM store I can walk to honest! (I always bring my Defender catalog.) My big bucks day is Defender's spring warehouse sale--a massive event, almost like a boat show, with cars parked up and down the highway outside their big parking lot.

Well, Vizini quotes aside, you have to remember that I actually live somewhat inland, about 20 miles from the coast, and there are two WM's in Seattle, one is downtown and mostly caters to working boats (think Deadliest Catch) which of course is the closest one to the boat, and the other is within walking distance of Shilshole Marina where a large majority of the local sailboats are moored. There's another big moorage just over the hill from that WM which is also sailboat centric, so I think they've localized their sailing inventory closer to the greatest number of customers. While this makes sense to me from a business outlook, it still doesn't stop me from bugging my friend in WM management about it. She lives on a sailboat (well, until extremely recently, they just bought a house too), so it's not like she's unsympathetic, it's just a business decision. Most of the boaters in my area are stinkpotters apparently and so that's what they stock in the store.
Sort of in between both the Seattle WM's is Seattle Fisheries Supply, which is a one off place, and the main store sits right on top of their warehouse, so if you don't see it on the shelves, there's a pretty good chance it's under your feet somewhere. They also offer a discount to the folks of my marina which is pretty substantial on some things (and not so much on others). Of course those prices aren't advertised, so you can't play them off of WM's price guarantee. They're also awful about returns, they'll do it, but it's not pleasant. As opposed to WM who make it very easy, so there are trade offs.
