Peggy complains that the throttle control for our Nissan 9.8hp is out of reach at the helm of JD.

Here's my new Throttle Extension.

Manufactured with a piece pvc pipe. A slot is cut on each side to allow for expansion to clamp around the existing throttle handle.

The finished product. Capped off and a second cap with the end removed and slid down to cover the end of the slot to prevent cracking.

In place, it grips the existing throttle just fine and can be removed with a slight tug. Makes the throttle easily reached when stood at the helm.

Nice job Paul! I need to devise something like that for the Tohatsu 8 shifter my 25. Leaning back through the rail to change gears is a pain

I have a shifter extension for mine.

Parts: 1-10", 1-4" piece of pipe and 1-90deg. elbow all pieces are schedule 40 PVC.

I can't remember the diameter, but think it is one inch. Slide the ten inch piece over the shifter and your in business.

Someone back in '04 came up with the idea and I have used it since.

Nice DIY Paul. I cheated & picked up an extension I found at WallyWorld for about $15. I bought two, one for SL & one for the Avon. Easy to put on at the start of a sail and easy to take off so someone else doesn't take it off for me.

They also make a more expensive one with a linkage in the middle that lets you bend it.

I've frequently thought that having one with a 90° bend in it would be handy for getting around the rails on the stern. Kinda a tiller extension to raise the mechanism up above the rails so they don't get in the way. I don't use the throttle on the tiller (much), but I do rotate the engine (still don't have a working hard or soft link).
