01/07/2012 update: I have both tanks in hand, picked them up this afternoon. One's already spoken for, the other one is still up for grabs. Let me know if you want one.
These are the tanks that I know for certain will fit in the C-250 fuel locker, or at least in a '97 like mine. So, I picked up my Duratank for $40 and had to drive 100 miles for it. I just found an ad in Craigslist for two of them for $25. If anyone wants one of these, let me know and I will try to get them for you. Or you can try to negotiate with the actual seller.
Steve, I talked to the guy today, I'm picking them up from him tomorrow sometime.
You'll have to build a pigtail that goes from an OMC to your Honda fitting, I'm doing the same for my Tohatsu. Basically it's an OMC connector on a barb, a piece of hose, and then a 1/4" or 3/8" NPT to barb connector with your Honda fitting screwed into that.
Both tanks are costing me $25 ($12.50/ea), which is an incredible deal, these go for about $70-$80 each when new depending on whether they have a fuel gauge built in (I didn't ask, these are so cheap I don't think it matters). The guy is aware of this, he found the tanks while refurbishing a house, doesn't have a boat and just wants them to go to someone who'll use them.
Rita figures it'll be less than $15 to ship them (she's the Ebay maven, so she'd know better than me), so it's going to cost the $12.50 plus whatever the shipping is. I'll ship it and you can send me a check.
Anyone want the other one? I'm thinking I might keep it as a spare if no one else is interested.
Rita has calculated the estimated shipping to FL will be about $16 (10 days shipping or so), $40 for priority mail (3 days shipping or so). We'll give you the exact shipping once we've figured it out, so just use this for a estimate, not a fixed price.
I picked up both tanks this afternoon. One's sold to Tradewind, and I've got another for sale (maybe the mods can move this to the swap meet for me?). If you want the last one, let me know.
Both of them have built in fuel gauges (the more expensive of the two models they make in this size).
I'm selling these for my cost plus shipping. I paid $25 for both of them, so that's $12.50/tank plus the cost of shipping, which we're estimating in the $15-$20 range (Rita will get exact cost on Monday or Tuesday).
Let me know if you want one. Keep in mind that you'll need to make a pigtail to go from the OMC fitting to whatever your outboard is (unless it's a Johnson/Evinrude/OMC in which case you're fine).
Steve, I haven't gotten any email from you yet with your address in case you've sent it via the PM feature on here.
Steve, got your email. I'm going to scrub the big chunks of grass, dirt & spider webs off of them this afternoon to prep them for being shipped. It looks like they were left outside for some time before he found them.
I also need to check to make sure there's no fuel in them, I'd imagine the USPS might not be very happy if there were.
Got them cleaned up this afternoon. One of them had a lot of oil residue in the tank, enough that it was running across the bottom. The other one (the one I'm sending you), just had a tiny trickle of oil in it. Both could use their insides cleaned out better than they currently are, and I'd change out the filter if there is one on the draw hose. The fuel gauges work (as in they move freely), and the sight glasses for both gauges are pretty clear. You might want to take the gauge apart & paint the indicator so it's easier to see, but it's evident as is, just not so easy to see in low light. It looks like they started out life as yellow, but they've weathered to a dark gray.
The one will the greater amount of oil I poured a 1/4 bottle of alcohol into and swished it around, which loosened up the residual oil, then I soaked it up with disposable shop towels & a very long set of hemostats.
Both tanks still have black spots of what I'm guessing is congealed 2-stroke oil on the insides. I don't think they're harmful, but my tank had the same thing, I used hot water & detergent to swish around and probably got 90% of it out. YMMV.
Rita's probably going to go to her volunteer job tomorrow, which means she'll probably be able to ship the tank to you as well. If not, then probably Tuesday.
