I am new to the club. I just joined a few months ago. This question will immediately alert you that I am a novice. I have determined that my 1983 Cat 25 is a tall rig. When I raised the main sail for the first time it seems there is a bit of distance from the end of the luff and the end of the mast. And the same for the leech and the boom. If I explained that correctly is it possible I have a standard rig mainsail on a tall rig?
Welcome to the club! A tall rig main will have a luff of @ 27.66 ft A standard rig main will have a luff of @24.66 ft The foot of both tall and standard are the same at 9.58ft. Yes someone could have put a standard sail on you boat but if they didn't raise the boom it would stop way short of the top of the mast. The boom is 10ft 4in long so the foot of the sail doesn't go clear to the back of the boom.
The boom length is related to the traveller location, so the sail is a foot or so short with either a standard or tall sail. The boom is low enough to smack you solidly in the side of the head in the cockpit with a tall sail at full hoist (a couple of inches short of the masthead), roughly knee high when standing on the cabin top (coachroof).
