While I was deciding my latest, I identified myself to our bridge operators as "Whatsername". One of them couldn't get that back out without losing it--it's nice to brighten somebody's day...
One of my candidates was "Pretentious"--taking from historic names like "Courageous", "Endeavor", etc. If you decide on "Fasination", check the spelling before you commit to vinyl--that would be almost as sad as the guy who painted the word "Scool" on a road.
We went through a similar exercise withour boat, and with similar results. We set ground rules to narrow things down. First rule was no more than 4 letters. Second rule was that the name had to be related to water somehow. Third rule was that the name should have an "easy tell" and "more meaningful" interpretation.
Setting ground rules was a great first step. As for the music when docking thing, there is enough going on without having to shout over Neil Young or Burt Bacharat. I would suggest nixing that for a while. In fact we turn off al noise sources at the breakwall, and only give instructions for getting to the dock without hitting anyone or anything. Our boat still has its themesong, but we play it at teh dock, or out on the water.

Also I wanted to say thanks stinkpotter - hubby wanted that one also because he thinks I'm obsessed and he thinks fasination is a kinder way of saying that - I like it but just can't spell it. It's my okie education. They just didn't teach us how to spell those big words.
Oh! You guys are killing me! I think I'll pass on hoof hearted (really too funny! I kinda like it... but no). I don't really want to name the boat after me. I dunno why that bothers me but it does. There's a long story behind 'waterbaby', lets just say it's an earned nickname and I guess it feels like I'd be naming the boat after myself with that also.
When I was a kid we used to go to the drag boat races. One boat was named "quicherbichin" and it stuck in my mind. Try spelling that phonetically over the radio!
The pressure is on - I have a deadline. Feb. 20th.
How about 'Sunshine'. It's pretty basic, but it says it all really. AND it has a song. 'You are my sunshine, my only sunshine...' and the very best part is I can pronounce it and SPELL it! Well?
If it brings a little sunshine into you life, go with it. It only matters that a boat's name is meaningful to the owner, with the afore mentioned radio caveats.

Talk about recognition. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"> Why not go with that? Typically a ship is named after women, so..
Miss Sunshine
I wasn't too sure about my "Miss Behavin" at first, but her name quickly grew on me and get compliments all the time.
And along the lines of Miss Behavin, how about "Miss Conduct" or "Miss Demeanor", "Miss Direction"?
Thanks Guys. I still like the name. It was the first name we thought of but I just thought it was too simple. But I guess it strikes at the heart of how I feel about the boat. Nauti - I've been toying with Lil' Miss Sunshine with the first two words superimposed on the word sunshine. I love the name of your boat BTW and I see that you have a theme going on...
That's too funny! So much for witty names... :) Being on a list like that immediately takes all of those names right out of the running. I guess part of my problem is I wanted the name to be original but I don' think that's really possible.
Hahaha, I can't believe Miss Behavin is on the list! I've never heard it anywhere else. I bought the boat from the PO on 6/09, and the name was faded back then, meaning it was named many years before 09. Maybe she started the trend. Lol

In 2011 I was typing in Miss Behavin' along with some of my coworkers to find a good graphic using their website. Perhaps we swayed the list enough to put her name up there.
