Wow, that really looks nice! You've done a nice job.
It always amazes me how much a little TLC can change the way a boat looks. There's a guy down the dock fom me that has a 1975 Cal 34 or 38? You would swear this boat just came out of the factory last week. He had the entire hull re-gelcoated, all of the teak is like new. It is a beautiful boat! Of course he spent a fortune but it looks like it was worth every penney.
<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"><i>Originally posted by waterbaby</i> <br />After almost a year of trying to come up with a name for our boat - I think we found it! Yeah!!!
Cacique (Basically it means Chief in the Taino indian tribes)
Karen the boat looks fantastic but (now your going to want to kill me) I guess nobody mentioned anything about putting the name under the cleat. Many of us move the name forward some so if you hang a bumper off that stern cleat it wont rub on the vinyl. Looks beautiful and I didn't bring this up.
We wanted to go with Saoirse (shear-Sa) which is Gaelic for Freedom. But we knew it would never be pronounced right by anyone....so she stayed as Simple Pleasures....at least for now......if you change her name research the renaming ceremony......there is rum involved!
Thanks Everyone! Sam - I especially wanted to hear what you thought of the lettering - glad you like it.
We go back in the water tomorrow! Now I just have to try to get everything rigged back up and put together from my winter cleaning activities. There's not a line, block or sail on the boat right now but tomorrow I want to SAIL! (even if only for a few minutes - dream big right?)
The shadowing is actually (gasp) orange. I started with yellow but it just didn't give me the right contrast. When I got the letters in the mail I cringed because it looked pretty loud, but now with it on the boat and standing a few feet away it's perfect! We love it. Now hubby wants to do an orange pin stripe on the boat and I bought my first ever orange dress the other day. See how things get started? Maybe I should check to see if Cacique has any orange underwear... :)
Irish - hey we're right down the road from you. We're not renaming the boat - as far as we know she never had a name. I think there's still rum involved though. 'Simple Pleasures' seems like a fine name to me but if you decide to rename her and need some help celebrating the new name I'm in!
Now to deal with YOU ISLANDER!!! NOW! NOW you tell me! Why I otta.....!!!!
Actually I didn't think of that at all so I'm glad you brought it up before it happened. I'll just have to be carefull with how I place my fenders. I was looking back at the picture and I'm hopeful that the letters are slightly behind the cleat and out of harms way. If not - and I screw them up I'll scrape them off, re-order and consult with you on where to put them the next time. Thanks for volunteering for that by the way. ;)
The most important thing is she has a name and we're going sailing tomorrow!
One of my favorite songs....Sunshine, on my shoulder, makes me happy....John Denver. "Sunshine, almost always, makes me high"....Perfect theme song for the boat.
Looks great. You guys will have a great season. My baby is on the hard for a second year. I hate it, but it does give me time to replace the standing rigging and deal with the brightwork. My whaler will be in the water in Miaine and that will have to do. My baby's name is Annatomical. I wouldn't try that on the ocean...
