That was cool! Does the keel pivot or was it modified for this? Cause it wasn't exactly perpendicular to the hull.

The boat has a canting keel, which means that they can rotate the keel to windward in order to help offset the forces exerted on the sail. Without the canting feature, those boats would not be able to carry as much sail area and would not sail as fast.
Here's an article with pics and drawings to explain. The second one is really interesting, as it goes into different styles and which boats they are on:

All the high end race boats use them these days like the VOR fleet, I'm going to be working on putting one on Stephanos.

I'm a big fan of VOR and the maxi's, yet I've never seen someone sail the canting keel out of the water. That seems extremely unstable yes?

Yep. Why risk putting the stick in the water and all the potential for damage for a silly stunt?

I notice there's no rudder on the port side. Which makes sense, you don't want to jump/get washed off and get killed by the rudder trying to slice you in half.

notice the leeway they are making in a couple other pictures. Nonetheless, pretty cool bottom job on that boat, and not what I think of when heave-to.

Awesome boat. It looks like the Radom for the Garmin radar is on a gimbal mount in the above photo to keep it on a horizontal plane...cool.

"Hugo Boss, this is Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound... What color is your vessel? Over."

"Coast Guard -- Hugo Boss -- White from Connecticut; black from Long Island. That could change. Over."
