It would work, but would be hard to adjust, so there wouldn't be a benefit to do it. The middle turnbuckle is already adjusted all the way to the stops. That's similar to the way they rigged boats in the old days, when square riggers were rigged with rope run through deadeyes.

DaveR, thanks...in San Pedro Belize for a little bit.

Steve, even with the turnbuckles all cranked the rig was so loose that Derek on "This Side Up" would be proud...

I imagine it would work but, why bother? Stainless steel doesn't chafe. I think "less is more" applies here. I'd bet that the
Hand made" part of this played into the decison. Maybe he found some stays but, they were too short so he improvised.

Too much stretch in the 3 nylon braid...they'll never get any real tension in the stays...of course, in Belize, how much does that <i>really</i> matter
