I am trying to find a bracket(s) that would clamp on a lifeline stanchion and allow me to attach and clamp a vertical 1" diam post to the stanchion. The object being to provide a mount for a solar panel. Does anyone know of a source for such? I don't see anything in West Marine's or Catalina Direct's catalogs.

Hmm,

I have a thought. How about taking a look at the clamp arrangement for the Magma BBQ's and/or prep tables in the West Marine catalog? See WM #158923, which has the clamp on one end and a "ribbed" finish on the other end, allowing you to get creative on attaching your solar panel.

Good call, Carlos! And welcome to the board!

Some slightly less pricy (and less flexible) mounts are West Marine's part # 153270 (Quick Mount Rail Clamp) and # 562280 (Permanent Rail Clamp). But the Magma clamp gives you lots of options--I use one to position a big umbrella anywhere and at any angle I want it in the cockpit.

Good idea! I once backed our Daysailer into its slip by backwinding the main--impressing the hell out of a couple of powerboaters!

Randolph,

Take a look at VHF antenna rail mount hardware. You might be able to adapt something to fit your needs. Some of these mounts have adjustable bases that would allow you to tilt your solar panel. That might come in handy.

From BoatUS,

This is a link to the BoatUS catalog page,

and West Marine's offering,

Many thanks to y'all for your clamp suggestions. Meanwhile a machinist friend of mine is making brackets for me. When they're finished and the whole thing is mounted I'll send pictures.

Whaddaya think, Don? You go to all that work, and Randolf has a "machinist friend"... Wonder what the unit cost is for that? (Watch how you answer that, Randolf--you're on the World Wide Web!)

He's got some "noyve", doesn't he?

Don't we all wish we had a "machinist" friend,...and a rigging friend,...a plumbing friend, a fiberglassing friend,...an outboard motor friend,...etc.
