I was looking at my Honda BF 8A engine recently, and saw that there was a connector that I didn't recognize. I finally downloaded the owner's manual and actually read what the connector was - turns out, it will charge my battery! Now I just need to find a dealer for the cable, but WOW! What a revelation!

NOTE: In my case, PLEASE don't confuse stars/number of posts with actual knowledge. On any topic.
If you find a dealer that can get you a cord, let me know. I had the engine apart and found out all sorts of interesting things, incl. a too small to believe fuel filter at the fuel pump. No electric start though. It did have the charging circuit that does put out 12v.
Jim, There isn't any charge cord. You use common marine duplex wire to run from the engine to your battery. You have to make up the cable. You have to buy the plug and attach it to the wire. The plug and other parts you can get from a Honda dealer or online at places like thishttp://www.boats.net/. If your outlet looks like this Then you need this plug, Part # 31652-881-014 honda#1308576
Jim, I have the two pronged connector also with the connector and wired back to the battery. I'll go out and see if I can read a number off the electrical plug tomorrow. It looks like a Catalina installation.
I have a '03 8hp Honda with an alternator and electric start (rubber covered button next to dead man switch). Page 10 of the owners manual shows the features codes (ie electric start and alternator). Looks like only one type has both "LHSA"
FAIL.... Look on the other side of the engine, The side with the shifter about 4 inches back from the corner just below the cover for the outlet. It will look like the one in my above post. It might have a rubber cap on it.
