Good luck finding replacement parts for that baby, Sean. Looks like the lower flange of the drum has already been jury-rigged try to get a little more life out of something that's past its day.

Seeing the condition of this end, I'd want to take a really close look at the top (as well as the condition of the forestay inside). The staining I'm seeing on the fittings in your pictures is a sign for caution. Do a little reading about stainless steel and you'll know what I mean. At the very least, check the condition of everything up top before you head out onto Huntington Bay some blustery day this Spring.

We purchased our 1988 Cat25 in September, but we haven't been able to sail it yet. I do know that our boat has a Roller-Stay furler made by Mariner. It works with hank on sails. I can't tell from your picture if you have a foil to hoist the sail on, or if that foil looking piece is the part that is hoisted. If your furler works with the current forestay and allows you to use hank-on sails, it might be this one.

If you have problems with the web address, email me and I can send you a pdf of the document.

I think that may be an early model CDI 4/6 furler. It appears CDI no longer supports them but you might search the web and see what you come up with. Found this thread with a picture or two.

That PDF didn't work for me.

What other furling systems work with hank-on jibs? Are there downsides to those systems?

That old CDI sure looks like the same thing. That probably makes two of you!

A furler for a hank-on might be similar to furler's I've seen that work with a loose luff--they just wind the sail up on itself, and then the whole thing can be dropped to the deck like a huge noodle. I've used one for a drifter. To me, the big downsides are they don't work for reefing the sail, and they're problematic for rolling up in strong winds.

Does the aluminum tube above the black drum cover the forestay almost to the top?

The pix are very close-up, and the drum appears to be not very big. The foil might not be as out-sized as it appears.
