A friend of mine recently sold his Catalina 27. The buyer of his boat needed a cradle, and knowing that I now have a trailer, my friend directed his buyer to me.
We agreed on a price. Back in October. I was assured the cradle would be gone "soon."
Its still in my back yard. Our house is for sale. We are hoping to move in June. The buyer reached me via email yesterday to say he would be by to get the cradle in August/September for haulout.
Would it be wrong for me to put this thing up for sale online and get rid of it? No money has changed hands and I am starting to feel like a storage yard. Plus its making my place look ugly for potential buyers. I want it outta there yesterday. Seems to me that if he really wanted the dang thing he'd have picked it up by now.
Notify the prospective buyer that you are putting it up for sale again and the first person with cash on hand gets it.
I've sold more than a few items in my day and when asked over the phone or in person if I'll "hold" it for them, I tell them, "sorry, it goes to the first person with the cash". If they want it bad enough, they'll make it happen.
I wouldn't make cash the sole criterion. I'd say it goes to the first person who shows up cash-in-hand to take it away. No down-payments or advance payments to "hold" it--you could end up holding it, cash or no cash.
By the way, I'd like to send you a check for $1,000 over your asking price, sight unseen, and then after you've arranged and paid for the shipping to Nigeria, you can send back the excess amount in the form of a cashier's check...
I agree with the team that says "call him and he who somes and gets it with the money in hand, takes it"" I did that with a horse and trailer-when several buyers were involved, the woman worte a check on the spot.

Rant, another cradle story . . . when we arrived in Marshfield, MA to retrieve our new new-to-us boat with our new trailer - the storage fee was more than double what we were quoted. After the yard personnel finished loading the boat - the supervisor (same person that gave us the quote) stood in front of us like he was expecting a tip. I told him to spilt up the money they received from the scrapping the cradle . . .
Rant, it blows me away how arrogant people can be. You are a storage yard! I'd tell him he has a week to show me the originally agreed on money PLUS $45/mth in storage fees or he can pack sand! If he doesn't like it, TOUGH! Sell it to the first person with cash and a trailer to haul it away.
Do NOT feel like it would be wrong to sell it. You still own it, you can do WHATEVER YOU WANT with it!!! You've given this guy plenty of time to pick it up.
I'm willing to bet this arrogant $%*#%# would use it to haul his boat, then call you up when he's done and ask you if he can store it at your place so he doesn't have to pay storage.
