Currently this.. or something similar ( cellphone/pandora ) to battery operated speakers is my sound system...

I keep waiting for the next big thing to come around.. bigger DC powered speakers that I can plug my cell or shuffle into.

Please keep on the lookout for me. I'm actually very happy with what I'm using now but these things don't have a very good life..

The lower power requirements of the portable dc systems appeal to me.
current marine radios are just pullin to many amps in my opinion.

We had one for the grlfrnd for her bike, that fits into the watter bottle cage that was sweet but she hated batteries. I'm a photog so my world is full of them.

Thanks.

My friend with the C-27 bought a really nice sound bar with a sub woofer, he put the bar in the starboard side rail down below. It sounds amazing but probably draws a crap load of power. He also bought some kind of smaller remote speaker that is wireless and connects with his Ipad and sounds great too, I'll be hanging out with hi tonight at the boats so i'll find out make and model etc.

I tried to get the Admiral's Bose Sound Dock aboard, but she said that wasn't going to happen.

<<Bose Sound Dock >>

Yepper.. I looked hard at one of those, and decided it was too many beers in cost.. even have the rebuilt ones at a nearby outlet mall.. it is still on the maybe list.

I work near one of the best geek stores ( Microcenter ) so I keep an eye out there. Thinkin of trying one of their computer speaker systems if it will wire to DC.

Go a mint wireless speaker system and it would not even work.

As far as computer speakers at a look at Cyber Acoustics. They make inexpensive speakers that sound pretty amazing, been using their stuff for years. I recently bought this set, comes with a volume pad that has an eight inch input for an aux cable, I hook it to my Android Phone and play MP3's or Pandora. For less than $40 you would not believe the sound.

yepper.. I've got 2 like that at home and they sound so good... Kindall with pandora to them.

I'm gonna test something like these ( without the subwoofer ) for DC battery power and see what happens.

The bars are nice also, my bro uses one of them... Pretty funny, he puts the iphone in his top pocked and party's with portable music..

Tragically Hip...

My other project ( which is far, far into the future ) would be to design the sound system with independent battery and solar power.

So I am looking at all options and trying to get a handle on the power they would require.

Ok found out what the unit was and it might be perrfect for you all be it expensive, about $300 from Bose.

It's small, sounds amazing, runs on it's own battery. About the size of a hard cover book.

Altec Lansing makes some very good, portable iPod (and MP3 general) speakers, including units similar to the Bose above. You can even pick them up on Woot.com or other deal-a-day sites for good prices, as long as you're OK with not having the latest-and-greatest version of the product. Of course, considering that most of us sail boats that are at least 10 years behind the technology curve, I'm guessing most would be OK with us not having the latest speaker system.

My boat has the $99 Dual MXCP66 connected to a pair of Yamaha indoor/outdoor speakers mounted in the cabin. Sounds great. The head unit of the stereo has an AUX and USB input so I use my android as a source and charge the phone with the USB output.

One thing though, I noticed with my phone always connected to the stereo my picture output has dwindled. Need to bring the Kodak today.

My BIL has one of those units, and it is nice and compact and sounds great. I was surprised by how heavy it is. There must be a helluva battery driving it.

It is crazy the sound that comes out of it, pretty cool how it just blue tooths in to whatever you're running.
