I was in Tampa last week on business. Called the Catalina Factory and ask if they did factory tours. Turns out they do at 3:30pm each Wednesday. I'm in luck it's Wednesday. I drove out to Largo and took the tour. It's worth your time if you are in the area. Most everything is done by hand no robots or conveyor belts. The only items they do not make at the factory are the keels, mast, winches and a few other small items. All the fiberglass is installed by hand and all the wood work in produced on site. The new "5" line of boat are very high quality.
Got to meet Gerry Douglas and Ken Roy. Ken is head of the parts department. He is the man if you need any type of parts any where in the world.
I'm in Tampa every month and for some reason have not (until now) connected the dots that I could/should try to plan for a wednesday and take a tour . . . Would love to both see how the boats are made and just drool!
