We had a good sail yesterday-first one since January and a lot of boat and trailer work in between. One item was a new Raymarine speed indicator. We achieved a top speed of 7.0 knots, averaged 4.4 knots, traveled 17.9 miles and the water temp was 20c. I did not measure the wind velocity but it was quite good in some areas of the lake.
I did learn that I have to fasten the Porta-potty down-it tumbled off the perch. I have stops on the board it sits on to keep it from moving around but was not thinking of the top water tank getting the CG over center when heeled over. Thankfully we had not used it, however, it did dump some water from the top tank on the floor.
We counted 27 sail boats within sight at one time, most were on the race course.

Life is not a dress rehearsal. You will not get another chance.
Sounds like a really nice day in TX. Is it the 1st 90 degree day of the season? Our water here in CT is at 48F/9C (which is warm for April). Our weather has gone from summer last week (80s) back into the 50s with mist.
One thing about heeling way over early in the season. You find everything that isn't nailed down! Glad it wasn't loaded.
Wow ! 90F and we are barely into April ! What's it going to be in July ?
You mentioned your Raymarine Speed Indicator...How exactly is that hooked up ? Did you originally have a speed indicator 4 1/2" diameter dial/hole in the bulkhead ? My originaly indicator does not work. It use to until it would become fouled and then would work again once the bottom was pressure washed. But end of last season and so far now as well, it is not working. I may check the wire connections. My handheld Magellan GPS will provide the actual speed over land but I may consider a new mounted speed indicator as a future project.
Scott , thanks for the photos. They are the first ones we have of the boat under sail.
OLarryR, The boat did not have a speed indicator when we bought it. I had to drill new holes for the installation. It had a Raymarine depth meter so I matched it for the speed.
I heard an "official" 7. That's still a lot of tornados in a small area. I didn't hear an EF rating, just that they weren't EF-5, but they and their spawning storms were moving so slowly that they could have more impact. Flying semi's is pretty good impact, or at least impending impact.
They were small....most of the time barely forming a shape....but even a little F1 can do alot of damage. I'll bet the one out in Forney ends up being a strong F2. I was lucky, only saw heavy rain, lots of lightening and our sirens went off a few times. Lancaster, Arlington and Forney took the brunt of it. It's been a while since we had an outbreak like this, and it's early in the season. Now through mid June is our time.
We had a nice sailing day today for our Learners At The Helm program. Winds about 5-8 mph, temp in the 80's, good teaching wrather. tomorrow is our first club race of the season and first cookout. Unfortunately, the forecast is calling for rain.
Scott - Nice removable teak board ! Surprised you did not also install one of those roller coaster safety bars to keep guests from falling off the potti.
Tumble stop looks good-thanks for the idea. I was thinking of straps attached from the floor to the sides of the unit. I was not sure how to attach the side pieces to the porta-potty. The top and bottom are both tanks.
Well, not quite 90F today. It hit around 60F today...maybe. Took off from work around 230pm, changed clothes @ marina and sailing around 300pm. Just finished. Hanging around and heading home in a few minutes. First, there was hardly a breeze. Then picked up to about 15 mph. Then died at 5pm and motored in. It's about 50-55F now.
Sunday mid 70's with little to no wind. (s,se, 1-3 kts)
Looks like Saturday is gonna be a great sailing day! Sunday is a gonna be a great chill day....motor out, drift along....read a book, take a nap, listen to music.....or stay in the marina and get some work done, hang out with other owners.
