1) in gusts, do skippers use the traveler to dump air?
2) or do most of you let out the mainsheet?
3) have you checked to see if the traveler performs its function by being able to center the boom with good mainsheet haul-in?
4) or is the geometry "off" and you wish you had a much wider traveler (which wouldn't be "legal" for class racing)?
Those with cabintop traveler mods can chime in, too, to explain the reason for your mods.
I do not have a pop top so a PO installed a cabin house traveler. It's the exact same set up as the C-27 I race on. It pretty much makes my vang useless.
1 & 2. When racing, yes. A combination of this and feathering into the wind. Even though my main sheet is easy to dump, using the traveler is more controlled.
3. When I'm racing, I will use the traveler to center the boom by adjusting it to weather. When out cruising i typically just center the traveler and fall off a bit.
4. I wish my traveler was "flat" and didn't have the arc, it would be easier to adjust. Otherwise I like it and I doubt it's completely class legal.
