Hello all, I'm making a trip Seattle next week and I'd be remiss if I didn't try to do some sailing. My assistant and I would like to either charter or bum a sail from someone while we're up there. We're staying in Gig Harbor but we have transportation. Any of you have any thoughts or recommendations?
It's a haul for a weeknight, but Duck Dodge is a friendly race on Tuesday nights that takes place in Seattle, and it would be pretty easy to crew for someone. You could potentially join us on my boat.
Thanks Alex! We'll only be in from Thursday night till Monday unfortunately. I think Saturday is our only really free day to get some good sailing in. Thanks for the offer though!
I'm always looking for excuses to sail and may be able to take you out around then. My boat is on Lake Union, depending on available time we could sail there (good urban views) or out on the sound (it takes about 1.5-2 hours each way to get to the sound from my slip).
Ping me sometime next week.
I haven't looked too closely into charters here, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could find a good charter option in Gig Harbor. It is a big sailing/boating town. If you only have one day to sail the sound is probably more exciting than the lake.
If you can't hook up with Alex, we can probably take you guys out. We're about 20 minutes from Puget Sound at our marina on the Duwamish River. Nice views of the Seattle skyline and West Seattle, and you'd get to play dodge-ferry.
We did, we found a Capri 22 out of Gig Harbor. Just down the road from where we were staying. We ended up only having half a day to be out, but it was nice. We went from GH to the Narrows Bridge and back. The air was very light with occasional puffs, but we had the tide with us both ways so we did ok. It's so incredibly beautiful up there. Quite a change for this mud puddle sailor!! Although, I do enjoy our consistent wind here in OKC.
Here are a couple photos. If you have any need to charter (not sure why you would...) I'd really recommend Dave and Gig Harbor Sailing Club. Thanks again for your willingness to help out. I wish my schedule had been more defined so we could have made some new Catalina friends. Maybe next time!
