The best news first: My first mate arrived! She is Baby girl Clarice, 3 weeks old and a whopping 10 pounds! The Admiral and I are having the time of our lives!
Yesterday I went with a friend, his 9yo son and my 13yo protege (my baby´s godfather´s son) for the first sail of the year and my first sail in about 10 months!
Last time I was at the boat I removed my old wire halyards and of course the last one one got stuck at the masthead and wrapped the messenger line for the first. So I decided to lower the mast. I started documenting the process but here is what I did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r33VCObNroY Many thanks to Davy J for the video! This worked great.
New halyards in place, my forestay was in the wrong position so I fixed that, and I used one of my old wire halyards as a temporary boom topping lift.
Mast up, boat in the water (I keep my boat on a trailer on shore storage at the marina) and I noticed I left my gas tank at home 50 miles away. No biggie, We sail out the dock, go out at Carlyle Lake and have 4 hours of great fun!
At some point I hove to and put lines out the stern so the kids could jump and body ski behind the boat (wearing their appropriate PFDs of course!)
Then is back to trailer and the "real fun" begun. it is pretty hard to use the public ramp on a saturday afternoon specially under sail so I docked the boat on the side of the ramp and when it came time to put the boat on the trailer we bravely fought the wind coming from the lake and while pushing the boat I managed to fall in the water to the enjoyment of every pontoon boat owner around.
The water was spectacular if I may add.
I hope everyone here at the forum is having as great of a time as I am
Cheers
I am Captain ! ! Yelled I to my wife and daughter...

I had an incredible weekend..Friday Night was purple skies.. Night swimming .. Saturday AM sanded, oiled, and rebedded the handrails. Single handed with a steady 15 wind from the east with occasional blows.. it was a Great Day. No Whitecapps and plenty of wind to go anywhere you wanted, big jib.. The Reggaee Regatta was in full swing with 50 sailboats on the horizon.
Davy J, I thought about buying another one, but mine is brand new and came with my 2011 new Nissan outboard it would be it´s second time out. While I was walking towards the shop to purchase it I could see the admiral going red, then purple..... I changed my mind!
Redeye, What a great picture! I love these sky colors!
