Was wondering how you would place one on the Capri 25. I vision it on the cockpit floor but maybe I am wrong.

I've got a Raymarine ST-2000. If you look up the manual for the ST-2000, on page 33, there is a basic illustration of where it mounts. On the Capri 25, the Pilot unit will actually mount on the Lazerette cover and a 5" tiller bracket is also required. I'll get a picture of Pilot mounted in a couple of weeks.

Here is a link to Raymarine. Click on the handbook. It has pictures.
I have one and love it for solo and long straight sails.
Good luck.

I got how they mount, and will follow up with which is better the raymarine or the simrad? I know I am talking the low end size... I was more interested in where you mounted, the lazarette hatch cover makes sense, just was wondering if that was sound or not, sounds like it is, that an a 5" extension makes sense too.

Without an extension on the end of the Raymarine Tiller Pilot, the Lazarette cover is the proper location to mount the Pilot if you follow the recommended installation dimensions. You may be able to buy tip extensions and mount the Pilot further to the side. The low end Simrad (TP10) is not network capable, whereas the Raymarine ST1000 is network capable. If coupled with your instrumentation (wind and GPS) you are supposed to be able to have the Pilot sail to wind or waypoints. I read several reviews on both Simrad and Raymarine and the overall impression I got was that neither were very reliable. One reviewer had both the Simrad TP10 and the Raymarine ST1000 and took a long cruise. I don't remember the details but after using both in various sea conditions, he started using the ST1000 exclusively.

I read the same reviews, wanted to hear some real world info... Yes I'd have thought put it on the lazarette hatch cover as well, seemed like the right spot but was worried about the cover moving... guess that isn't a problem.

Oh, I did an interesting thing, I sold my 6hp long shaft (which dragged in the water without replacing the bracket I will not ever be able to get it out of water). Anyway, I sold the 6hp, and purchased a 2.2hp Merc, with integral tank, regular shaft (smaller than I wanted to go, was hoping for 3-4). The new motor runs flawless though, is simple, and seems pretty powerful. I'll post again once I've used it a bit. The 6hp was overkill anyway.

Don't laugh when you read this... but does it stay connected all the time? is it a quick release? I could see the limited range of the tillerpilot actually being a good thing on the Capri 25, because of the quick to stall rudder. Links to picts not working but I get the jist, looks real good actually.

I'm smiling, not laughing:) A small brass "cup" is epoxied into the lazerette cover. The pin at the back end of the Tiller Pilot drops into that cup. There is not a latching mechanism to keep the pin inside the cup. The telescoping rod on the Tiller Pilot has a cup on the tip and it slips over the ball mounted on the tiller. To remove the Tiller Pilot for storage, just disconnect the power cable and lift the unit up from the mounting pin and the tiller ball. To disengage while the Tiller Pilot is in use, go to standby, lift the telescoping rod off of the tiller ball, swivel the Tiller Pilot to the side (keep the mounting pin at the back end still inside the brass mounting cup). It can be dis-engaged quickly, it's not so fast to engage. To engage, you have to move the tiller (go off course) to mate to the telescoping rod or keep the tiller in position and manually command the telescoping rod to the tiller ball position. If you want the high resolution photos, email me at Fleet1959@yahoo.com and I'll reply back with the photos.

I ordered a new Raymarine ST1000 Plus from defender today, along with various "parts" to get it installed. Plus a dozen other things to get this boat up to speed. I'll shoot a picture or two once it's all installed.
