Make sure you can easily remove it so that you can open the fuel locker!
Not good when in a channel and fuel can empties then have to struggle to get the fuel locker open quickly.
(don't ask)
If that ever does happen, you'll make a routine of always checking fuel levels before going into a channel. (don't ask)
We keep our Generator on top of the fuel locker (that explains a lot of the above) but it makes a great butt park, can't really 'sit' on it, but it does keep us on our toes.
I have a cushion for the fuel locker and have a tiller. Obviously, not very practical. The cushion has tabs on it with snaps. There are no corresponding snaps on the locker though.
We have the same thing as John, with a tiller, and like he said, not overly practical. Ours doesn't have the snaps either, or at least I don't think so. We've never once used it. I suppose it'd be handy at anchor just to have another padded seat, but still, not overly useful. We have cushions for our catbird seats that get almost as little use.
And I think Paul's right, I think Randy has some sort of folding seat for his, and like you, he has a wheel.
I triple stack throwable seat cushion life jackets on the top of the fuel locker. I secure them to the railing with a couple of D rings. I only use this going in and out of port while under power. Gives me great visibility forward of the bow while transiting the channel and avoiding traffic.
I sit behind the helm most of the time. Do a lot of single handed sailing and have moved the winches back to make it easier to handle. Looks like Randy has done something that I may be interested in looking at. How do I get in touch with him.
Just saw a C250 for sale on Craigslist with a fuel locker mounted seat. It is posted as being on the lake here in Tahoe (Reno/Tahoe Craigslist). A pretty good photo showing the seat is with the ad.
