Has anyone heard from Joe Diver? Just saw this on the news. We didn't even get any rain. I hope he and his boat are OK. I tyhink we have a couple forum members on this lake. Not sure if this is where he keeps his boat.

quote:
Homeowners and boat owners around Eagle Mountain Lake are feeling pretty powerless today after a severe summer storm moved through Tarrant County Sunday night.
Thousands have no electricity on what's forecasted to be another day of triple digit heat.
Meanwhile, owners of some the biggest boats on the lake are trying to assess the damage after one of the floating docks at Lake Country Marina broke free.
"I-Dock" slammed into another before drifting more than 500 feet into shallow waters near shore. The storm also ripped apart the sheet metal cover that came crashing down onto luxury cabin cruisers moored below.
Boat owner Randall Johnson told News 8 he had no idea when he jumped into his brand new cabin cruiser to escape the storm that he would end up enduring the wildest ride of his life. He said winds of up to 80 mph and heavy rain pummeled the area for about an hour. When it was all over, Johnson emerged from his boat to find it was still attached to I-Dock, but the now mangled dock floated far from its original spot after breaking apart in the storm.
Johnson, like so many other boat owners at Lake Country Marina, is now waiting. His boat is sitting in shallow waters near shore still attached to the I-Dock, but unreachable.
Tow commander Dennis Creech said the marina is hoping to begin hauling the damaged dock out of the water later today and continue Tuesday. However, he said repairing or rebuilding it could take another month and a half.
Creech said even boats unscathed by the storm face another danger in its aftermath. Below the surface, cement pilings that used to help anchor the floating docks are now loose, lurking below the surface. Not helping matters, is the fact water levels are down more than four feet.
Creech said wooden-bottomed boats could be destroyed in an instant and fiber-glass-bottomed boats wouldn't fare much better.
Johnson said he would settle for getting his boat free and clear of I-Dock. After all, he said, he just bought the boat and put it into the water Friday.

He posted earlier today in one of the other threads, so kinda assume he's OK, no idea about his boat.

That marina is on the North East end of the lake. Scott's boat is at the southwest end. I'm not saying nothing happened where his boat is but that is not the marina where his boat is and not where he moved it from. I guess I should make a call since I just moved mine down there. My boat is at a marina on the west side of the lake.

My info was not completely right. That Marina is close to where Scott moved his boat from. All of the Forum members I know at Eagle Mtn are at Eagle Mtn Marina that is in the southwest coener of the lake.

I'm okay guys, so it the boat....and big thanks for thinking of me.

That is Lake Country Marina. It's down in Dosier Slough near my old marina, Harbor One, which also took damage. I called Linda at Eagle Mountain Marina (my marina) and they had a recorded message stating that EMM was just fine, no damage.

My brother has a house on the hill overlooking Dosier Slough. He had damage to his house....said the wind was so strong it was forcing water through sealed windows. He watched I dock at LCM get pushed out of place and up against the shore. He said he's never experienced winds like that at the lake.

My marina, EMM, is on the southwest side of the lake. It's up against a part of the dam on the south side, and the west/north have a big breakwater, leaving the east side open to lake access. It's pretty well protected.

I'm surprised that the Fort Worth Boat Club didn't get any damage. It's on a point, with only the north side protected by land. It's also close to LCM. The weather service said the storm was equivalent to Cat1 hurricane.

Once it cools down. I haven't been out to my boat in 2 weeks. As long as the winds are 5mph, 105+ and still 95 at midnight.....I stay home. Even riding my bike is relegated to after sundown.

The upcoming weekend should be a treat....a cold front....yes, a cold front in August...is supposed to drop temps down to the low/mid 90's, with overnight temps in the low 70's maybe even high 60's! Unfortunately.....I have oncall pager starting today thru next Monday....have to cover Noon to 8:00 pm. Damn.

I want to come out for the Wednesday races....it's getting there on time which is my issue.....I have to drive right across the whole Metroplex at the worst possible time of day. Once it cools down to high 80's or low 90's I'll give it a shot. Worst case I get to check out your marina, which looks pretty cool from Google Earth.....
