I assume other C250 owners have this same thing on the railing behind the fuel locker. What is it for? Maybe a lifeline above the outboard over to the starboard catbird seat? If so, where do you attach the other end?

Looking down from above:

Looking up from port on the hard:

I don't think SL has one there. A lifeline attachment point to the catbird seat seems pretty reasonable. Maybe a tie down point for your mast when you're trailering?

I just dug through some old photos and it looks like we do have that same loop. Guess I never noticed it before.

I use this loop to secure my outboard while it is in the up position when underway. It keeps it from flopping from side to side when tacking.

Elixer, If you have a Honda like it looks like in your pic, you should have a tightening mechanism thingie for that so she won't flop back and forth while tacking. Then you won't need to use loopie thingie.

PS John, I Hope I made you feel better by not using word "Thingy".

Piseas, after looking at the Honda manual I see that indeed there is a steering friction bolt on the motor, I will have to fiddle with it next time I'm on the boat. The only bad thing is now I am going to have to find a new use for my loop thingy

I can't remember my C250 - did it the fuel locker have a tether on it to hold the lid open?? I think the anchor locker lid had one also.

Don't know what the loopy thing is for exactly, but I hook my kill switch lanyard to it for easy access.

NautiDuck hit the nail on the head. That "loopy thingy" is where you attach the pelican hook for the lifeline used on boats with the inboard diesel. The other end is attached to a bracket mounted on the rear support directly under the starboard stern seat. I think the bracket under the seat is only installed with the lifeline, so I'm assuming you don't have one.

Thanks for solving that pressing issue!

It seems to me that a lifeline there could be a safety enhancement even with an outboard, unless it interfered with reaching out to lift the outboard. I'll have to look that over next time I go to the boat.
