I emptied a small gas can that had some old, water contaminated gas in it into an old mason jar. Originally I was just trying to get rid of the water thinking I could use the rest of the gasoline, but once I saw what color it was I decided against it. I left the mason jar out on the tailgate of my truck on a hot sunny day last week and about half of the gas evaporated in a matter of hours. Perfect, I'd just let it all evaporate I wouldn't have to figure out how to dispose of the gas. That was about a week ago. The gas evaporated down to about 1/4 it's original volume and then the level barely changed. So I put a blower fan blowing over the top of the mouth of the jar figuring that'd accelerate the process. Well, sorta. So then I grabbed one of my junk aluminum fry pans and poured the remnants in there so there'd be more surface area, so more evaporation, right? That was a few days ago and this is the result:

You can see the lines on the top of the pan as it's slowly been evaporating and concentrating. I was going to just pour it on some grass in my driveway, but now I'm interested to see what I get.

Reminds me of orange shellac a bit, but the smell is all gasoline.

My two stroke would probably run just fine even with a sand/gravel/oil mix.

That really does put a good light on the concept of gasoline varnish. Thanks for posting that image, it really changes the way I think about it.

And now.. for the Flambe...
