Hello all, this very neglected hull of a C25, fin keel, dinette interior landed on my lap. Here is a picture of the tag, any idea on what year could it be?
Cheers
I am Captain ! ! Yelled I to my wife and daughter...
Dumb question but isn't there a Hull ID number (HIN) on the stern? It's usually scratched in on the starboard side and it tells you the make, model, year and month of manufacture. I have a 16 ft daysailor from '78 and the HIN is correct.

If you can find it, give it to us and we'll tell you everything there is to know about the boat. You'll need it to register and insure the boat.
My 77 doesn't have the CTY on the starboard. I think a few may have gotton out of the factory in the early days without the numbers etched in the hull like mine. I called catalina and they took the hull nr and found the info and had the CTY that was left off my boat. But mine is registered with the hull nr 77 only. I traced the titles back to the original PO and the boat was always registered with the nr 77 and no other numbers. Your boat could be like mine and have no number on the starboard. Call Catalina and they will look it up and send you all the info.
PS. I haven't had any problem registering the boat or insuring it with only the hull number. Even Boat US and a local company here in OK insured it with out any question regarding the factory stamped number.
CTY = Catalina Yachts K = C-25 0042 = hull #42 M = the following 3 characters are the Manufacture date 77 = 1977 F = January (A = August. Don't ask me...)
John: Did you look on the outside of the transom, starboard side, just below the rub-rail, for something that looks like it was scratched in by hand with a hot nail? (...because it probably was.) I'm dubious that Catalina forgot to put it there--it's required by law.
IMHO, 42 looks like a size... 0042 looks like a hull/sail number--and given the 6000+ C-25s, a very low one at that! (If I had Confetti, her sail would read 0001. (Maybe it does. )
Dave I looked when I bought the boat and again this year when I replaced the rubrail. No sign of the marking. Also the PO had it registered as hin 77, nothing else.

There should be a secondary place IN the hull that the HIN is marked. Usually it's hidden under a settee or some other hidden place on the boat. It's a way for law enforcement to determine the hull number and who it's registered too if the bad guys pry off or grind off the exterior HIN #.
My boat is also registered to the state without the full HIN. I actually wrote down the full HIN and brought it with me when we registered the boat, but since the previous owner only used the serial number that is how they registered it for me too.
Our HIN is carved into into the hull as described above, it is also on a bonded label on the inside of the Stbd Cabin seat, of course, that will differ on a C25
