Lookie lookie what showed up on my front porch over the weekend:
They weren't there Friday night when I ordered a pizza. I called a beekeeper in Keller. He's coming by this evening to collect them and relocate them to his hives. He lives about 10 miles away so they should not come back.
Shame I can't keep them, relocating to a proper hive of course (they did choose me after all)...but I don't know anything about bees...and I'm sure my back neighbor, with grandchildren and a pool, would not appreciate that new hobby from me.
Scott
When we left, we had just enough fuel to make it to San Juan. And now... we are out of fuel!
The beekeeper dropped by.....said they were a nice, tight swarm and he'd come back at dusk to get them if they're still there.
Still there?
He said that with as much activity as he sees, theres probably scouts out looking for a good place to build a new hive. They're probably just resting here.
Sure enough, not 5 minutes after he left, while I was watching from inside, 1/3 of the swarm let go and plopped to the ground. Then a little more and finally, in about 30 seconds and a huge buzzing cloud.....they left. There's maybe 3 or 4 buzzing around and a few on the ground....but they're gone.
The beekeeper told me they were probably transient and if the scouts found a good spot they'd move on. Just didn't expect it to happen 5 minutes after the guy left.
I called him and said "they're gone". He was quiet, then said "what?" He was as shocked as I was and couldn't believe it.
It was cool watching it though....it was like they all just let go, plopped to the ground and started taking off....
