Usually O2 "foolers" should have been installed. They're just plugs with resistors that plug into where the sensors were. See this all the time on LS1+ motors. (Corvettes, Camaros, Firebirds, etc)

True dual exhausts will actually hamper performance in most applications. The exhaust systems are designed to scavange pulse energy for better flow through the system. This is why you find a crossover pipe between long tubes. An X pipe is even better. Bassani has a very well designed X pipe that crosses duals.

Sounds like what you need is a good tuner. A trip to the dyno is probably in order. Or, a return to the stock exhaust system.

Kid next door has a very loud Honda - he calls himself a tuner. I bet he could slam this bad boy down, tub out the rear fenders and put on big-ass wheels, put on mood lights, and install a kick-ass stereo.

Instead, I think I'll let the garage run their tests and then form an opinion. I'm in no hurry, and spreading the pain over weeks will at least mean I can pay in installments.

I think I can recover what I have into this truck so far in parts if I have to. I think the starter alone is worth around $200.

A tin can muffler does not a tuner make. I've used Lava as shower soap more than once.

Joe diver is right on the money. A custom exhaust sounds good but rarely does much good for performance when it's the only modification. You only get a boost when youve done stuff like a new cam, intake, ported heads, etc. and the stock exhaust becomes a bottleneck.

Your best bet, considering you view this truck as a bargain beater, would be to go back to the stock exhaust. You may be able to leave the headers, but only if they were designed to be a stock replacement. If you do need to replace the headers too, get them from a junkyard. You might be able to get the whole system from a junkyard.
In the states i use www.car-parts.com for junkyard searches. Most junkyards put their inventory there. Dont know if they cover canada.

Just heard back from the garage. mechanic says he thinks he can get a pass/fit by just replacing the sparkplugs and O2 sensor. Thats the good news. There's always bad news...

The bad news is that the O2 sensor is/was welded into the header at some point. he isn't sure if he can get it out. And if he removes it with a torch, he fears there not being enough meat to weld a new bung to seat a new sensor into. The header is badly corroded.

Solution may be to install a new exhaust. Which may be a good thing - revert to a Y-pipe and stock exhaust system ($350 in parts). I just don't know how much the manifolds will cost to replace.

Is Canada even greener than Cali? It seems like such a nice place when you hear about it. I am contemplating circumnavigating the great Lakes next Summer, (by car), and am excited by the possibility of going to Canada.

Toronto is a beast Frank, skip it. Stop by our place for a drink and an overnighter though. Heck, I'd even take you out for a cruise except that I'd be embarassed by how far below your standards Iris is kept.

North shore of Superior will take your breath away. North Shore of Lake ontario has loads of war of 1812 history, but we aren't very in-your-face about it around here. You kindof have to know what you are looking for. You bringing a camper or staying at hotels? Fire me an email and I can fill you in on whats worth doing/seeing.

I'm sure it is big enough to be congested and inconvenient for those nearby, but it is a great place to visit. The Great Circle Tour takes you through some wonderful places.

We have an unexpected setback on the truck situation. One of those things that just fall into the repair programme out of nowhere and throw the whole schedule off...

http://www.durhamregion.com/news/crime/article/1519479--oshawa-city-solicitor-abducted-but-now-safely-home

Why they took the solicitor hostage in the same neighbourhood where the truck is, is beyond me. There are plenty of other industrial parks around that would have been equally good. And I think this is the only situation of its kind to ever have happened around here. Aye Carumba.

The story gets juicier the longer the standoff lasts...

http://m.thestar.com/news/gta/article/1272631--whitby-kidnapping-former-councillor-had-longstanding-feud-with-city-of-oshawa

When politician takes a lawyer hostage, who do you cheer for?

Well all done and ready for pickup. I should be on the road by Monday.

Total price for purchase, safety and smog testing... $3650 plus or minus pennies.

Still have to pay licensing fees and sales tax on it, but once thats rolled in I should still be in the $4,000 range - which isn't bad. I think.

I ended up replacing the O2 sensor and both cats, and a wheel bearing. That was to meet Gov't inspections.

Also replaced oil cooler lines at mechanics suggestion. Will replace control arm bushings as well as a DIY. I would like to replace the Driver's mirror since the power mirror motor on it is dead.

Oh, and I got a $10 CB off ebay for a toy to put in it. Now I'm a REAL trucker.

Thanks all for your input on this.

Filled the tank for the first time today...

160 litre tank on bone-dry empty. $1.122 per litre. You do the math.

Wow.
