We saw this sailboat cranking along at what I would guess 20-30 knots. Large boat making time. Sorry for the crappy photos but it was some distance from us. I will leave this one to the forum Guru's because I have no idea. Sure was wild to watch. I made them large to get more detail.

It looks like at least a 50-60' custom racing boat. I've never seen a production boat that resembles it. Donnybrook is a nearly 90' custom racer, and, as I recall, a Donnybrook crew member recently told me it can make about 22 kts under power. The boat in the photo is definitely not Donnybrook, but if it was doing 20-22 kts under power, it probably looked like it was doing 25-30, making alot of sound and spray.
I think it's a 156' Pendennis superyacht MITSEAAH, which cruises at 25 knots.
You know, it reminds me a lot of my Catalina 25, because I often have a wonderful time on my yacht. Similarly, I hope the skipper, crew, guests, lawyers, accountants, and public relations folks also have a nice time when they sail on the MITSEAAH!
I think John got it--from the cabin trunk right down to the red flag. (Bermuda?) She has 7000 hp, and can make 25 kts. Sometimes that much speed can get you into a pickle...
Holy crap it really IS that big! See I thought 60+ was too big, but looking again, I agree with John, seems to fit the profile, which means almost twice the size I brought up.

The boatswain's crew of 3 probably took care of fueling the night before, as they retrieved their cleaned and pressed uniforms and readied the mechanical systems for the next day's outing, while the chef and chef's mate readied the menu, the skipper and navigator finalized the course and reservations, and the owner called to confirm that the entertainment was lined up for next evening in the main gallery aboard.
On the Gypsy, my staff of 1 performs all of that flawlessly, too!
OOh, my checklist: Navigator - yep android phone turned on, navnionics running. Music - Yep android phone streaming music to bluetooth speaker. uniforms - check, aussie hat, 2 year old sperrys smell like dead fish, cargo shorts, and regatta sail club shirt with stains... Fuel - Yeah, I think I have about 3-4 oz left in the integral tank, I'm only going 150 feet anyway, it's a sailboat after all, we run outta fuel we SAIL! Mechanical systems - check, the blocks are all turning, cleats cleating, 'cepting the ones that ain't sposed to turn but one way (crazy spin blocks). Chef and Chef's mate - That'd be me and wife, and boat's kinda small to mate right there, you know frequently, (something about public nuidty if it's done on deck), so we try to keep that rabble down. Menu - Check, got beer, got tater chips, ooh fancy stuff, too we got cheese in a ziplock with pepperoni! yeah, we're living now! Skipper - given commands strictly from the admiral (wife), definitely check. Reservations - only should it be 155 light or 150 heavy, ah heck go all in 155 light it is!.... no reservations there. Owner - Only claim is it's me, unless of course the lake police are looking to write a ticket at which case I just borrowed the owners boat. Entertainment - oh that always crops up on it's own, like the night I watched the cigarette boat get towed back to port by the johnboat with the 9.9hp in 10 knots headwind... that there is entertainment.
Yeah, you know I think the "Dawg" has it covered as well.

Well I agree,John gets the prize.( Contact forum administration). I was staring at this boat for so long when it went by that I totally back winded the genny. What was more impressive was the stern wave this boat put out. It can be seen in the second photo. It kicked me up 2knots when it caught up to us and surfed it. You see many large big bucks boats on LI Sound, None with an American flag though.

I don't think it's Bermuda, their flag has a large crest with white & green on it which I don't see in the close up. Maybe Merchant Navy Civil Ensign or New Zealand Civil Ensign? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Jack#Use_in_other_flags
Yeah its a crazy motorsailor, it is really pretty up close except for the coachroof. I believe the mast is also telescopic. It was moored in Sag Harbor a few times this summer so I dinked around it a few times...
I think the strange shape and proportions of the cabin create an optical illusion of the size from a distance. Take a look at the people in the aft cockpit of the photo I posted above. That sucker is big!
