I have a 2nd generation balanced rudder for sale. It's in excellent condition. $300 + freight. Also a full set of 3 companionway hatchboards (recently Cetoled) - make an offer. Also the port and starboard spindle rails.

I totally want it. Maybe Greyhound or somethign to get it up here? I'll email you with a Postal Code/nearest depot.

I had my rudder shipped from CA to Niagara Falls, NY to UPS location. They charged me I think 10 to receive and another 10 as it was in a crate and they had to take it through the back - I walked out with it through the front door... go figure. But that shipment was using Pilot courier and it was 118.
I also looked at shipping rudder from FL to the border and quote i got was 150.

I used the forum e-m. Send me your e-m address to dcrawford12 at satx.rr.com. I have the tiller, shortened by about 10",(still works perfectly and gives more room for the genoa trimmer) and I also have the Forespar tiller extension.
Derek I received the hatch boards yesterday. They are a hell of a lot rougher than they looked in the picture you sent me. And when you wrote that they had just been recently Cetoled I assumed, as I think most people would, that they would have been done on both sides instead of just one.
Bud - I guess you are correct, my mistake. If you are that unhappy with them, send them back and I'l return your check. BTW = why would you cetol the backs? Nobody sees them.
The tiller arrived today. It looks great. A piece of TSU will sail on.
I think I'm really going to like the short length of this one. In the past, if I lost my balance while tacking I would catch myself (not intentionally) by leaning on the end of my old tiller which is probably what lead to it starting to delaminate.
I'm back.I haven't responded back to this thread because my computer died. Now I have a new one and have recovered most of my files.
Derek, If that offer is still good I would like to return them. Not because they look that bad but they don't fit my boat. If not I'll try to resell them to someone who can use them. Maybe Redeye.
Bud - did you sell them to Redeye? I'm sorry for the late reply but I hadn't checked this thread for a while and I was off air for a week getting a new PC.
Tom, I still have the mast & boom but how the heck would you ship them?

quote:
I have to ask -- what is the difference between a "second generation" balanced rudder and any other "balanced" rudder?

I think Derek is referring to the rudder being the model Catalina switched to around 1988. It was the second of two used for the entire production run of the C-25. The Ruddercraft (Ida) HDPE rudders CD sells, which were never original equipment, claim to be balanced... Looking at them, I see almost no surface area forward of the pivot line--certainly not like Catalina's 2nd design.
Derek, I believe a regular trucking or shipping company could do it. I assume you saw my other post about the bridge closing on the boat, and then picking it up out of the water. It hung there for almost an hour before the masthead gave out, parting fore and aft stays and the port upper shroud. Please send me an email at - TCurran32766 at gmail dot com we can discuss possibilities cost, etc. I looking for a mast no matter what, I need to see what the bridge folks are going to do about paying (i.e. how much).
