Just wanted to post my findings of my recently painted hull with Interlux ACT. This product is one of the less expensive bottom paints on the market. I chose it because the PO had used it on my boat prior. I scuffed the remaining ACT with a Scotch Brite pad and then wiped it down with the Interlux Thinner/Solvent. I applied an indicator coat in Gray (thinned) and then 2 coats of Blue (also thinned). When I pulled the boat last week there was absolutely NO sign of slime. I'm on fresh water so barnacles are not an issue. The outboard tail was covered with the typical lake slime. I was ver impressed with the results of the ACT. The PO had the boat on brackish water with good results. For the money, ACT has my vote for slime prevention. Just my $0.02 on this product.

ACT is a season to season bottom paint meaning it is only good for 1 season and you will have to apply another coat next season. In my opinion I would rather use a multi season paint to avoid having to do a paint job every year. ACT isn't such a bargain price wise if you have to use it every year and you will probably start to build up a lot of paint on the bottom unless you completely remove the paint from the previous year.
I agree with Scott... On a sailboat with weekend usage, even ablatives can build up year-to-year, so a multi-year paint, which remains effective through winter storage, is valuable. The best value I've found in a multi-year paint is WM's "PCA Gold", which according to some sources is re-branded Pettit dual-biocide "Ultima 40". It also lists PTFE (Teflon) for reduced drag. Along about March, you might find it on sale for something like $139. I think I may have gotten it for less one year. (When that fails, I pick up Ultima 40 at Defender's warehouse sale.)

What does Defender charge for the Ultima? I plan to buy some off season to get a good price. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">Check their site... The warehouse sale is 10% off that. I've generally been able to get the PCA Gold for less.
