With many boats now laid up for the winter, we have time to dig out those pics that make the season longer.

What do you think of the idea of an Album of the best pics of this season.

Each member can build their own album, but the Staff could compile the best into a series.

??

Yes, definitely! I always enjoy seeing other peoples boats and the places they sail.

Will these count as well??

Full scale model of the "Ark of Noah" displayed in Dordrecht, Holland

inner harbour Dordrecht, Holland

What can be more Dutch than this aboard one of the old timers

Bygone inner canal freighters
(my dad had one almost identical to transport turf from Drenthe to Groningen) Old versions had sail and in the case of no or contrary winds were pulled by a horse or... when poor, should I mention it, by the harnessed skippers wife.

Old steam tug... still used for excursions and in good shape

Time stood still... my most favorite photo taken Nov. 2012 in the city of Groningen, Holland

Two modes of transportation... bikes and ships Groningen, Holland
Nov. 2012 Note: the bowsprit is pulled into an upright position to safe docking space

Old canal boat used for route canal tours

Groningen, Holland Nov. 2012

Detail... Groningen, Holland Nov. 2012

Instead of keels these old timers have side swords to navigate shallow waters

Rigged as a square rigger??

Received an invitation for a cruise on the Waddenzee, Holland

I love these shots of Holland. Reminds me of my travels there.

The side boards on the sailboats are also called leeboards. There are usually one on each side so when the wind blows and the wind heels the boat over, they deploy the lee-side board which works like a centerboard on a dinghy.

My first sailing, at about age 8, was in a flat-bottomed, square-rigged (bedsheet) rowboat for which my dad built a pair of leeboards that let me sail nearly 90 deg. off the wind. That was a whole lot of seasons ago, but I wish I had pix.

It's funny to drive across Holland alongside a canal, and realize that the boat you're going by is floating higher than your car!

Posted this on another thread, but felt it is worthy of two threads....

No, not photo shopped, and yes, my boat.

Great shots of Holland, thanks for sharing.

Never mind--I just caught the other thread... OK--the trophy can be awarded right now--that's the SEASON'S BEST PIC--nothing can compete!

(I'm glad everyone was safe and responsibility has been accepted.)
