I thought I would ask you guys what you think. I don't race and know little about racing but this boat keeps popping up in my local Craigslist and It looks to be fast. Is it in the same class as a Capri? Anybody ever race against one? Good boat? Bad? What do you think. http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/boa/3441175463.html

Nice looking boat. I've never run across one or have heard anyone talk about it. Just looking at the specs, I can make some assumptions: Shoal draft keel vs Capri fin keel probably means poorer upwind performance. Weight is approximately 4550 lbs vs Capri 3000 lbs and the sail area is roughly 50 sq ft more. Because of the weight, I think the Capri will be faster in light air. Capri's excel downwind with a spinnaker, I didn't see anything mentioned about a spinnaker. The Portsmouth rating is virtually identical, 84 vs 84.2, so they should be considered in the same class. What I would worry about is how accurate is the rating since there were only 18 boats built and who knows how many are still active. I do like the thought of the inboard diesel. Folding prop? I noticed some self-tailing winches-nice. If you are looking to seriously race the Tanzer, then I would do more research. If you are just starting out to race or just looking for a cruiser and casual racer then this seems like a nice boat at a good price.

Looks like a slightly bigger and heavier boat than the Capri 25. I couldn't find a PHRF rating for it, probably due to the low production volume. The average Capri 25 PHRF handicap rating is 174, you might check with the local Clubs around that boat's location to see if they assigned it a number. Looking at its specs I'd guess it would be a slower boat, but that is just a guess.

I've only come across tanzer 22s.

Going over Portsmouth ratings, I see that the tanzer 25 is rated an 84, where the capri 25 is a 84.2. I am going to go out on a limb and say that rating is way off base for the tanzer, just given the shapes of the hull, and layout.
