There was a thread last April on bilge pumps, and some mentioned just having purchased or plans to purchase the Whale SuperSub. Did these work well for anyone who installed them? I'm looking for a pump that leaves a minimum amount of water in the bilge after it turns off due to an inboard and drip from stuffing box.

I installed a Whale 650 that leaves about 1/4 inch of water. I routed the hose to the cockpit so I could see if it turned on when under way. I placed the manual switch between the companion way stair and the fiberglass under the sink to keep it from being turned on accidentally. I have tested it with a water hose and all seems to work OK. I have my stuffing box adjusted so it only drips when shaft is turning. Do not install a non-return valve. Incidentally my boat is 5737, next one built.
I have not yet taken the stuffing box apart. I plan to pull the boat in a couple of weeks to take the drive system apart to check out. I did replace the cutlass bearing last year.
z: We used a hose to clean out the boat's bilge and then tested our pump from there. Which, incidentally is how I found out I needed to rebuild. The pump uses two flapper check valves which had aged and no longer sealed. The rebuild was simple, as long as everything is put back together properly. :O)
